At Greenland Airports, we have plenty of experience handling pets travelling by air. We treat all animals with great care and consideration to give them the best possible experience. On this page, we have collected everything you need to know about travelling with a pet or service/companion animal.

How to travel with pets

First, you need to reserve a place for your pet or service/companion dog – this is done by contacting your airline. They can provide you with information about transport crates, drop-off points, prices and other aspects of travelling with animals. The rules may vary, so always contact your airline well in advance of your desired departure date.

Before travelling to Greenland

In order to bring a pet with you to Greenland, you must have the permission of the municipality you are travelling to. You must submit a request directly to the municipality.

You also need an import permit from Greenland Representation. To obtain a permit, you must have a health certificate and proof of vaccinations for your pet. The import permit from Greenland Representation and the other documents must accompany the animal throughout the entire journey.

You can see which vaccines and certificates you need on the Veterinary and Food Authority of Greenland website (in Danish and Greenlandic only): Veterinær- og Fødevaremyndigheden i Grønland

This is also where you will find an overview of the rules you need to be aware of.

Collecting your pet

When you arrive at your destination, contact a member of airport staff about collecting your pet. If your pet is too big to be transported inside the cabin, it will be brought to the odd-size baggage pick-up point.

Useful information

Animals are not permitted to travel unaccompanied from our airports.

You may only bring dogs to areas of Greenland that lie outside the Dog Sled Districts. You can find an overview of the Dog Sled Districts on the Veterinary and Food Authority of Greenland website (in Danish and Greenlandic only).

Please note that female dogs brought to Greenland must be neutralised.

Before leaving Greenland

When travelling from Greenland with your pet, the rules of your destination country apply. For example, if you are travelling to Denmark, you must contact the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.
