Temporary Suspension to Security Level 3 for Nuuk Airport

During a recent inspection by the Danish Transport Authority, security deficiencies were identified, leading to a temporary downgrade of the security level from Level 2 to Level 3.

As a result, international flights directly from Nuuk to destinations like Keflavik (Iceland) and Iqaluit (Canada) are currently not permitted. However, domestic flights remain unaffected.

The issues found include, for example, unlocked doors that could allow unauthorized access to restricted areas.

This suspension is only temporary, and we are committed to rectifying the situation swiftly.

– Our team is working diligently to resolve these issues as quickly as possible, so we can restore the security level and resume international flights from Nuuk. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this situation causes our customers and passengers, Says Head of Communications at Greenland Airports Mikkel Bjarnø Lund

We anticipate that these problems will be resolved during week 36, where the Danish Transport Authority will come for a new inspection.

In the meantime, international flights from Nuuk will require a technical security stopover in either Kangerlussuaq or Kulusuk, where passengers will need to disembark and go through security checks.

We are working closely with the airlines to minimize disruptions and ensure a smooth process for all travelers.
